• FAMILY BACKGROUND:

• The last of 6 children born to Charles David Byrne (1926-1986) and Dorothy Lewis ("Dottie") Byrne, Charles is STILL "the baby" of the family.  He has 4 older sisters (Deb, Tara,Cath, and Char), and one older brother (Mason.)  His Father, Charles D. Byrne was Denver City Auditor for more than 20 years.  Before that, he served in the Colorado State legislature, and as Clerk and Recorder of Denver County.
•                Dottie Byrne, the Matriarch of the Byrne Clan until recently was an employee st St. Malo Retreat Center in Allenspark, Colorado.  Although she currently is living in Charles' house, she would  commute the 90 minutes  between Englewood and St. Malo 3 and 4 times a week.  Working at St. Malo had its benefits, though..... in 1992, Dottie was greatly honored to meet Pope John Paul II when he stayed at St. Malo during his trip to Colorado. Dottie is now working at Colorado's Ocean Journey, Denver's world-class Aquarium.
•                 Charles' Eldest sister, Deb , raises beautiful Samoyed puppies with her husband, Robert Sencenbaugh, in Ft. Collins Colorado.  Her two boys, Rob and Ed, are something to be proud of. Loving gentlemen both, Rob will never lose his entertainingly sharp humor  and Ed is forever dedicated to his children, his marriage, and his wife.
•                 Until recently,  Tara, Charles's 2nd oldest sister teaches 7th and 8th grade language arts at Park Middle School in Parker, Colorado.  She is one of those few teachers that makes learning an enjoyable experience.  Personally, Charles is an Adverb                                            ....::: big smile ::::.
•                 Cath is the mother of 4 wonderful kids, David, Kris, Keri, and Alicia Burton.  She lives in Estes Park Colorado.  Cath is often helping others, and can be giving to a fault, at her own expense (both financially and physically.)  If to give of one's self is the definition of love, Cath is love incarnate.
•                 If you ever want to know the definition of a Bronco fanatic, look no further than Char Dowdell.  Born 1 day and a few years before Charles, Char is his fellow Aquarian in this eclectic group.  She has bled orange and blue for as long as anyone can remember. She has 4 beautiful children, Erin, Marnie, Beth, and Timmy.
• Mason Lewis, Charles' sole brother, has worked in radio since 1985.  From reporting cattle futures on KFKA radio in Greeley, he has come a very long way.   Until  just recently, he was program director of 1280-X  radio (Formerly "Ralph1280".)  On the way to 1280, he had stints at KOA , KNUS, KHOW, and KSIR in Estes Park.  Every station he has worked for has improved due to his being there, as is witnessed by an unusual show of loyality by Mason's co-workers and employees.  A number have followed Mason from station to station, and Mason's reputation is finally getting nation-wide recognition. His years in radio have given him more than just a good "radio voice" and understanding of the airwaves......, he has recently taken a major marketing job at TCI cable He and his partner now live in Canada.  

CHARLES KING BYRNE:

At the age of 3, Charles watched his big sister Char climb a very small plaster-of-Paris hill while singing "Climb Every Mountain." It was at the Loretto Heights College Theatre in Denver, during an Original Scene production of "The Sound of Music."  After the completion of the song, his young eyes beheld what he figured to be the most beautiful sight in the world; a standing-room-only crowd of over 1000 people jumping to their feet to applaud "Maria, Captain Van Trapp," and the rest of the cast.  At that point, Charles knew there must be a special place in heaven for anyone who could make so many people happy.  The smiles on the faces of the audience were enough to convince the young Charles that THIS was what he wanted to do.  He wanted to make people happy.

 As time passed, 12 months didn't pass in which Charles wasn't on stage in one production or another.  George M!, Oliver!, The Music Man, Bit's of Broadway, Diary of Anne Frank; After school, during school, during summer breaks, if there was the opportunity to be in a play or a musical, Charles was in it.  His drive towards the theatre continued through his Senior year in high school.  Then, on May 26th, of 1986, everything changed for the Byrne family.  Charles David Byrne, their father , and Dottie's husband, died of a massive heartattack on the 2nd hole of the Estes Park Golf Course.

 CK graduated from High School 5 days later, and being oblivious to the "business end" of performing, turned to a more "secure" source of employment, The United States Navy.  After graduating from Boot Camp at Great Mistakes (Great Lakes, IL,) Charles was trained to build and repair the airframes of F-14 Tomcats, F/A-18 Hornets, and other Navy aircraft.  This training took place 30 miles north of Memphis TN, at the Millington Naval Air Base.

 Upon his return to Denver, Charles was introduced to a bar named "Packards," a 50's and 60's-themed night club.  The decor was all shiny aluminum and neon with red/white checkered floors.  In short, it was the cliche' of a 50's diner, only bigger.  While working as a dancer at Packard's (no, not THAT kind of dancing, )  CK began to impersonate Rock and Roll Legends like James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, John Travolta, Tom Jones, and Elvis Presley.  Not having been brought-up on Elvis' music, Charles began to study video tapes, records, and books on the "King."  Within a few months, patrons were asking Charles to perform at their weddings, birthdays, and children's Bar Mitzvahs.  They even started PAYING him for the shows!

 At this same time, Charles met his future wife (and future ex-wife), Lisa DeMaio.  After a 1 year engagement, they married on  Father's Day, June 17th, 1991.     They would be married for over 3 years before separating on January 29th, 1995.

Unfortunately, Charles has no public shows scheduled at the moment, however Summer season shows are already booking, and when dates are confirmed the website will be updated.  Also, a rumor is going around that Charles can be found most Wednesday nights rehearsing at Jester's in Castle Rock, Colorado with his good friend Steve the K.J.  The Sun April 22nd Jam session IS open to the public, although not a Charles King Show as such.
